THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING ANA!
Tradition of “Once laureates of the festival, and today?” program will continue again this year. In a way, this is how we try to keep up with the professional development of our high school filmmakers. Some end up in the world of film and some in a completely different, but successful field.
This year we are presenting two Anas – director Ana Opačić and Croatian language and Media culture professor Ana Đordić. Two film nights will turn two Karlovac rivers into natural cinemas – one night it will be Mrežnica while the other night Dobra and on both nights we will learn the importance of being Ana!
Ana Đordić – I am a child of the Festival as well as Croatian Film Association!
Ana Đordić
Ana Đordić is a long time contributor to the Festival and FRFF mainly as a member of the selection. Through all these years, she carefully hid the fact that she was as well long time ago, part of the Youth Film Festival when it was held as a part of Croatian Children and Youth Film and Video Festival. As a high school student, Ana was a member of KK Noham at Classical Grammar School in Zagreb. With her films “We’re stronger together” and “Artifices Murorum”, she participated at the 37th and 38th Children and Youth Film Festival in Pregrada and Šibenik. Selection panel then stated:
- „We’re stronger together” – It is definitely interesting film that takes us to an alternative world of rappers, skins, hippies, punkers, metal heads, skaters and grungers. Visually we learn a lot but through curious journalist question, we don’t get the answers video offers us. Theme of Zagreb’s subculture through this film could be an idea for a short series about those groups.
- „Artifices Murorum“– This film takes us to the world of moral and brings it closer to us. It introduces us to some new facts and changes our opinions. Film is affirmative and it manages to show painting of old and abandoned walls in a positive light. Color and imagination opposed to dull urban life. Good film.
Youth jury awarded both films. “The fact that our film made it into competition at the Festival was a huge award for us. Participation at the Festival meant that what we did at our school film group made sense and that some adult and smart people that know more than us recognized our work. Kids, as well as adults, find it important when their effort is being appreciated and valued. Also, participation at the Festival was a motivation for my future work in film.”
Today, Ana is a Croatian language and Literacy and Philosophy professor as well as post graduate student of Literacy, Performing arts, Film and Culture at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Studies at the University of Zagreb. She works as a Croatian language and Film art professor at XIII Grammar School. She is a contributor to CFA at educational and festival programs and of CAVC at their program of film literacy. In her words: “I am a child of the Festival as well as of Croatian Film Association. Ever since I participated at the Festival and first saw the editing desk at former Association office at Primorska, first time I borrowed books from Vera’s office in high school and watched films in Tuškanac in college, School of Media Culture after college and all the articles in Yearbook until today when I’m a contributor to Croatian Film Association, I have always remained connected to the Association and with film. I think that participation at the Festival directed me towards profession in film in some way. Mainly, if it wasn’t for the Festival 15 plus years ago I would not have been in film studies today or here with you”
Đorda where are your limits?
