Croatian delegation at Giffoni Festival in Macedonia
Giffoni Festival Macedonia is held in Skopje for the second consecutive year, from 8 to 12 October under the umbrella of the Giffoni brand - one of the largest children and youth film festivals which has taken place for 44 years in the Italian city of the same name.
Croatian Film Association has established cooperation with Giffoni few months ago when CFA’s Manager of festival programs attended the Conference of Youth World Cinema Alliance in Albania. After that children from Macedonia were members of the jury at the Four River Film Festival, while children from Italy were members of the jury at the recently held 52nd Croatian Children’s Film Festival. Also, Croatian delegation traveled to the Italian Giffoni in July where pupils and students together with 3500 peers from around the world evaluated greatest world films.
Given the desire for long-term cooperation, the organizers of Giffoni Macedonia invited the Croatian delegation to devise one varied program and present themselves in Skopje. Thus, the members of the Croatian delegation led by Croatian Film Association this year are:
a) Four members of the children and youth jury (with 500 peers from the region): two jury members aged 13+, Ora and Paula Kovač come from the Zag Association and last year they won two awards at the Children's Film Festival; the other two members of the jury are aged 16+, Iva Šobak and Morana Bunić come from Vanima creative film studio and at the last edition of the Youth Film Festival they won the award for Best Film in the open category. Participation in Giffoni is their prize for outstanding talent in the field of children and youth filmmaking. Their companion and head of the jury is Anita Stepić from the Cinema Club Karlovac.
b) The Croatian team was responsible for three out of eight workshops taking place at Giffoni. The graduate animator Tea Stražičić with her assistant Martin Babić held the animation workshop, Sandra Živanovic from the Cinema Club Karlovac held the TV report workshop, while Antonio Britvar from the Hodači po žici Association held a feature film workshop. Antonio's participation is particularly interesting considering that he is still a high school student. There is an important pedagogical element because Antonio needs to be a leader to his peers.
c) In addition to the jury and workshop leaders, Croatian delegation includes Vera Robić Škarica, secretary of the Croatian Film Association and Marija Ratković Vidaković, manager of the festival programs.
Tomorrow's presentation of Four River Film Festival, Youth Film Festival and Croatian Children’s Film Festival will certainly contribute to the whole delegation in Macedonia. Macedonian young film lovers will be able to see four films from the above-mentioned festivals: In cold blood, by Elegy Film and Blank film groups, Haha ... you're dead, animated cartoon by creative film studio Vanima, I know my goal, TV report by the ZAG Association and elementary school Marija Jurić Zagorka and Kissing Desease, documentary by Hodači po žici Association. After the screening there will be Q&A discussions with the authors. So, tomorrow's stars are Ora, Paula, Morana, Iva and Antonio!
