The thematic diversity is the biggest value of this year's selection
At the event symbolically named, 'Yellow carpet', which was held on Saturday on the Tuškanac Cinema plateau, selection committee, consisting of a film critic and political scientist Boško Picula, professor of Croatian language and media culture Ana Đordić and producer Ivan Kelava had a difficult task - to announce which films will fight for festival awards on the Karlovac yellow carpet in June. In domestic competition, most films come from Karlovac, Zaprešić and Gunja.

According to Boško Picula, films in both domestic and international competition have one thing in common - through their films young filmmakers want to relate their private lives with what troubles the whole world, and they are mostly interested in the meaning of existence. Commercials and music videos came to the fore in Croatian competition and one part of the films is on enviable production level. That production level has adorned great movies for years, for example, those from Denmark, Picula emphasized, adding that his greatest joy is to see different approaches, different themes and different categories.

International Film Festival for high school students
Producer Ivan Kelava says that technical perfection of high school films is no longer news because today's high school students grew up with cameras, but that it is amazing how young filmmakers think, elaborate and speak using film language. Professor of Croatian language and media culture Ana Đordić adds that the festivals are an excellent springboard for the placement of all high school films, and the value of the festival is the exchange of knowledge and experience of high school students from around the world.

Young filmmakers compete in these categories - fiction, animation, documentary, freestyle and gastro film, so in accordance with the fifth category, a banana was selected as this year's visual identity of the festival in Karlovac.
Yellow carpet instead of a red one
On Saturday, instead of the red carpet that awaits them in the future, young film makers walked on the yellow carpet, competed in a film quiz, were photographed and enjoyed the sweet, banana delicacies prepared by students of Gastronomy and Tourist University from Zagreb.
Last Festivals' winners
Youth Film Festival is the central place of Croatian high school filmmaking. The festival has changed locations for 12 years, and since 2007, has made its permanent residence in Karlovac. Since 2008 Four River Film Festival, its international version, has been organized. Besides high quality main program, what makes this festival special is more than rich additional program on different locations - workshops, round tables, excursions and performances by musical bands. The goal is to make Karlovac truly live for film, in every sense of the word.
