The 22nd Youth Film Festival and the 10th Four River Film Festival under way!

Karlovac, 12 September - Karlovac woke up this morning in film land - a program with the youngest Karlovac elementary school kids was held in the morning. As many as 60 kids from the elementary schools Dubovac and Grabrik had the opportunity to participate in the program Best of the Children's Film Cuisine. This is a program that includes the best works of previous Croatian Children’s Film Festivals, by authors whose recent film works will be screened at this year’s Festival. This year the program is educational as well - the children’s film screenings are designed as media culture classes for elementary school kids under the leadership of film editor Jelena Modrić and Croatian language and media culture teacher Ana Đordić. Karlovac elementary school kids will have the opportunity to acquire new film knowledge, discuss important problems in the company of their peers, but also gain additional motivation to try out filmmaking.

The workshop program for elementary school kids from Karlovac in cooperation with the Youth Photo Week was next at noon. This program included children from the Grabrik Elementary School.

There will be a debate at 1 PM in the Zorin Dom Theater, titled To film violence or to react to it?; this is a part of the program that is traditionally held with the award Yellow Flag. The aforementioned award is granted to film authors from Croatia and the world who use their topics and stories to most successfully and convincingly condemn violence. Students of the Karlovac High School, Karlovac Mixed Industrial-Crafts School and the Karlovac Economy-Tourist School will participate at the debate.

At 5 PM the participant will hang out in front of the Zorin Dom Theater, with a picnic and speed dating, and the grand opening of the festivals is to be held at 8 PM in the Zorin Dom Theater. After the official opening ceremony hosted by actors Hrvojka Begović and Adrian Pezdirc and radio host Frano Domitrović, there will be a screening of the fiction documentary film A Brief Excursion by Igor Bezinović. The film was the winner of this year’s Pula Film Festival and is based on motives from the Antun Šoljan novel of the same name. This is a documentary and fiction film hybrid that follows Stola, a young man in his late twenties, who spends the summer in Istria partying at festivals.

After the film screening from 11 PM entertainment is organized with the band 4head in the Zorin Dom Theater cafe.
