DELEUZE AND CINEMA
Frame and shot, framing and cutting
A chapter from the book Cinema 1: The Movement Image (L’image-mouvement. Cinéma 1, Les éditions de Minuit, Paris 1983) soon to be published in the Croatian language, as well as the second volume of Deleuze’s more influential and frequently quoted philosophical film study Cinema 2: The Time Image (L’image-temps. Cinéma 2, 1985). The second chapter, entitled »Frame and Shot, Framing and Cutting«, considers the shot as a basic film unit and the frame as a unit containing all film elements, as well as indications regarding the off-space. This chapter also examines deframing (decoupage) techniques, reframing, and movement as the basic unit of the shot. Gilles Deluze |
