THE RENAISSANCE OF PUBLISHING?

Attractive and reliable textbook ofmedia culture

Mikic’s four textbooks of media culture for senior elementary classes are accompanied by a didactical manual (co-author A. Mesic) and DVD (co-author M. Kuhta). Besides film, which is the core of the current school curriculum, the textbook covers comics, television, theatre, radio, newspapers, books, and computers. Concisely, but intriguingly and clearly, the author explains important notions about the nature and particularities of each medium, using interesting examples (for which purpose the DVD comes in handy). Instead of the usual patronizing and detached approach, Mikic’s textbooks are permeated with familiar, direct and friendly approach. The pupils are encouraged to think and make logical conclusions, while the teacher’s task is to help them form a logical and intelligent answer to their question. This pioneering work is an excellent guide for introducing media culture in the school curriculum, but at the same time it will attract wider audience.
