FRENCH FILM AND LITERARY TRADITION

In this article connections between French cinema and literature are registered on three levels: on the level of general motives, on the level of stylistic and thematic correspondence between different cinematic and literary trends, i.e. on the level of relation to the literary and cultural thematic legacy, and thirdly, on the level of overlap among the general ideological and thematic tendencies in film and literature. These topics are elaborated through a number of examples. In conclusion — film and literature share a number of common characteristics even outside the special case of film adaptations of literary works.
