Old Rules and new Exceptions
(THE 9TH DAYS OF CROATIAN FILM, ZAGREB MARCH 2 — 5, 2000)
Filmography and Awards of the 9th Days of Croatian Film (V. Mn)
Old rules and new exceptions marked the
9th Days of Croatian Film. In the category of short and
medium length films, Croatian television remains quantitatively
dominant with its, mostly documentary, works. The short
fiction film has been boiled down to the fresh student
production of the Academy of Dramatic Arts, and animated
films recorded only individual successes (Film with
Little Girl by Danijel Šuljić), while non-budget experimental
film and video kept up its solid average this year as well.
One exception however is the documentary production of FACTUM,
which has introduced an investigative approach to Croatian
documentaries, as well as a socio-critical stance, political
subject matter, and the refreshing documentary approaches
of young authors (Andrej Korovljev in Years of Rust,
Zvonimir Jurić in Fortress, Aldo Tardozzi in Terra
Roza i Zrinka Matijević in Of Cows and Men). Diana Nenadić |
