Celebration of children's film has started!
53. Croatian Children's Film Festival was officially opened yesterday at the Art-cinema Rijeka. Festival was opened by last year's winners, young film makers from Rijeka after the opening work by the organizers, Croatian Film Association, Art-cinema and the City of Rijeka. „It is an honor to greet you all here for the 53rd time at the oldest children's film festival in Croatia. This Festival has been traveling all around Croatia, starting in Zagreb and after Rijeka, we are moving to Makarska next year“announced ms Vera Robić Škarica. Mayor of Rijeka welcomed all young filmmakers and said that Rijeka was the city of film in the past as well as in the present. He said he hopes that some of the filmmakers will find their future in the Croatian film. Opening ceremony was followed by the performance of a Josip Kaplan choir.
After the first screening, youth jury interviewed authors about the methods of making their films and graded them in secret. New double issue of Croatian Film Yearbook was presented in the Art-cinema Croatia and was followed by the panel discussion and presenting of the Yearbook to the youngest audience. Tendency of it becoming an academic magazine was stressed and some of its articles were written to serve the teachers in their preparation of the media culture classes. Yearbook was presented by Diana Nenadić, Mirela Ramljak Purgar and Silvestar Mileta.
Youth filmmakers can expect a day filled with screenings (as well as grading for the jury) and workshops with knowledge useful for future filmmaking. Children will learn how to tell a story in one minute, how to make an optical toy and will acquire basic knowledge about film criticism and how to make a film in one shot.
During that time, their mentors can hear the presentation of a book „Finally after never – challenge of media challenges“, workbook for media culture by professor Marina Zlatarić.
