Let’s meet the participants of 19. Youth film festival and 7.Four River Film Festival

“Izvan fokusa” (Out of Focus) Association: “Not only do we know the yellow festival in Karlovac best, but we’ve also taken part in its organization!”

The title says it all! Although they are young, they handle the world of film like adults. They founded the association alone and out of pure love, and now they make films for numerous clients. Meet the Karlovac film bees through the eyes of their president Filip Trezner.

Out of Focus is a relatively young association from Karlovac. Where did the idea for something like that come from?

The idea for establishing the association was created after many years of work in the form of informal youth initiatives Lumiere media, where several young photographers and cameramen gathered to work together. The association was founded at a time when the team expanded and when our appetite for film and photography grew so we needed a legal basis for action. To this day, the association reported and received many projects at competitions, and also made ??numerous partnerships.

You have three films in this year’s competition. Please introduce them briefly.

Film and video production in our association is really growing strong and every year we make over 40 works, mostly in the form of videos, reports and films and video materials for a specific purpose. We are proud that three of our films have entered the competition at the festival, especially for the film "My vote for Europe" for which we spent a lot of time and effort. It is a film that aims to motivate young people to be active and to perform their civic duty, go to the polls. Another film in the competition is a TV show on the subject of photography among young people, i.e. a TV show that follows the Photo Youth Day event. The third film is actually of experimental nature. It was created in the process of testing the new GoPro camera and contains the best scenes from that testing.

People from Karlovac in Karlovac. Is that an advantage?

Well we think that there is no difference between us and the other participants of the Festival, perhaps it makes it easier because we are all from Karlovac so we can keep track of the Festival program without traveling.

How are films in your team made? Brainstorming, someone's idea or something else?

They occur in a variety of ways, often the client sets the topic (in the case of a film with a specific purpose and reportage), but before the shooting the film crew gets together, goes through all the ideas and chooses the best. The same story happens while we shoot. Everyone has their own task in the production, but also in the filming so production and shooting go by very easily and painlessly, moreover, with lots of fun.

Perhaps you know our yellow festival best because you’re from Karlovac. What do you like most about us?

Not only do we know it best, but we’ve also participated in the organization of the Festival! We think the Festival is very important for high school film because it encourages young people to be creative, while providing them with a place for showing their film, where they get affirmation of young filmmakers, but also provides an opportunity to win prizes and awards.
