Once laureates of the festival, and today?
What are former festival winners up to now? Meet Maida Srabović and Luka Hrgović!
We are two weeks away from the beginning of the yellowest days of the year -19th Youth Film Festival and 7th Four River Film Festival which will take place from 17 to 21 June in Karlovac. The films in the competition program have been chosen long time ago and high school kids from all over Croatia and abroad have mentally started packing their bags for the town at the four rivers and they are ready for the biggest high school film manifestation to start.
Despite numerous modifications in now a far richer program of the festival, some things remained the same. One of them is the program ‘Once laureates of the festival, and today?’within which films of former winners of the festival, and today experienced professionals will be shown. As of this year festivals will visit rivers of Karlovacso the first evening of the accompanying program will be held at the Korana River, while Dobra River will serve as an instant cinema for the program of thesecond evening.

This year we will present Maida Srabović’s films. Exactly ten years ago she thrilled the audience at the 42nd Croatian Children and Youth Film Festival in Zadar. Today she is the author of many documentaries and collaborator on numerous music videos we have a chance to see on TV, among which stands out the video for the song Ex-Girlfriend by the group Lollobrigida. She has also been praised for the interesting animated film Lady Akra Šimšiš. In order to recall Maida’s beginnings at the Festival, we will screen exactly that film, as well as the current one called Permanent Loan, directed by David Kapac, which takes us into the story of the demise of a neighborhood video store.

Shoulder to shoulder with this young academic editor we will put Luka Hrgović, who has MA in animated film and new media. He is into film, animation and short video formats, and has for years been exhibiting at home and abroad collectively and individually. He was the one who won the first prize at the before mentioned Festival in 2004 in Zadar with his feature film Epopeja o bureku – a consistent parody of some classic moments and motifs from the history of film with burek in the main role. In addition to burek, the audience will see the film Zetstapo that puts a magnifying glass on Luke's career today, which has only one mission - to vilify public transport in Zagreb: "Several times while I was on a tram or bus, I didn’t have a ticket and that’s exactly when the control entered. I remember that unpleasant feeling so I said why not make a film about how people feel when the ticket control catches them. Of course, an additional incentive for filming was everything that's been happening with ZET and their prices lately", Luka explains.
Many good films in the official competition and in the accompanying program awaits you in Karlovac this year. Therefore we expect to see you fromJune 17 to 21at the bowling destination for high school film! 02.06.2014.
