FILM AND OTHER MEDIA

Cinematic language in the exhibitions by Peter Greenaway

The text tackles three exhibitions by Peter Greenaway, a film director and interdisciplinary artist, presented between 1993 and 2009 – Watching Water, Venice 1993, Flaying Over Water, Barcelona 1997, and Paolo Varonese/The Wedding at Cana, Venice 2009. It is explained that these are not only complex exhibitions by a conetmporary artist but also film language creations of sorts, directed at questioning the boundaries of film as well as exhibitory (artistic) forms. Applying this approach, Greenaway clearly continues the research he started with his films. However, there are no limitations imposed by the film audience that looks for narration and other similar elements of a commercial film.
