Film heritage surrogate
On the occasion of the exhibition and the exhibition catalogue Surrogate of Reality –A Half Century of Croatian Animation by Marta Kiš and Karla Pudar, Galerija Prsten, Croatian Association of Artists, June 9 – July 9, 2011
Very often the media treat the history of Croatian animated film superficially. As a result of his dissatisfaction with the exhibition Surrogate of Reality – A Half Century of Croatian Animation and the exhibition catalogue, Borivoj Dovniković Bordo, the doyen of Croatian animation, points to a series of errors and erroneous interpretations. Furthermore, he warns about the danger of repeating the same untruths and unjustified conclusions over and over again. Analysing the texts from the exhibition catalogue in a polemical manner, the author reviews the entire history of the Zagreb School of Animation from its beginnings in the middle of the 20th century until the final end of probably the most important aesthetic movement in the history of Croatian (and not only animated) film.
