When We Were Slaves

Velimir Grgić and Marko Mihalinec, 2004, Yellow subtitle — a different encyclopaedia Zagreb: AGM

Author of the text expresses his reservations about accepting the poetics of the »different film encyclopaedia«, pointing out that acceptance of the Yellow subtitle, a book moulded by the particular tastes of the two authors, definitely depends on the reader’s inclination towards such publications (quite frequent abroad). However, surprisingly enough, due to the fact that Croatian film lovers have a limited approach to entire national cinemas and opuses (even those that love pulp fiction, trash, or other alternative film orientations), Grgić’s and Mihalinec’s choice is actually a bit conservative.
