Emotions in the land of snow and ice
The author discusses about main authors of Icelandic cinema. The leading figure is director, producer and publicist Fridrik Thór Fridriksson whose drama The Children of Nature (Börn náttúrunnar, 1991) won an Oscar nomination. He intertwines popular culture with the traditional cultural heritage. Fascinating Ice Fever (A köldum klaka, 1995) reminds of Jim Jarmusch’s work. Dagur Kári’s work — Nói Albinói (2003) and 101 Reykjavik by Baltasar Kormákur (2000) give an imaginative presentation of the destinies of young characters. Although not so well known in the world, Icelandic film is gaining in importance. Elvis Leniæ |
