Ten years, 40 issues
With this 40-ieth issue of the Croatian Cinema Chronicle ten years of publishing is completed. When the Chronicle was initiated in 1995, there were some doubts. One was concerned with the reliability of the state subvention, and without such a subvention a scholarly magazine could not survive. Second doubt was based upon a visible scarcity of film-scholars in Croatia, of those individuals that can supply studious papers for publishing. Both doubts have stayed unsubstantiated. The Chronicle continuously received the national and the regional subvention that helped it survive in an respectful manner. And the Cumulative Index published in this issue gives evidence that the Chronicle has had 130 contributors during its 10 years, half of them the authors of substantial papers — interpretations, historical research papers, and theoretical papers dealing with diverse topics, together with the substantial work on filmographies, lexicons and bibliographies. As was planned from the beginning, the Chronicle has become a bookshelf of reference on Croatian cinema, but on the world cinema too. Hrvoje Turković |
