From Tears to Laughter (Hungarian Films on 1956 Revolution)

A review of Hungarian films which deal
with Hungarian revolution of 1956. Special part of the
text is dedicated to the peaks of the retrospective — Marta
Meszaros’ films Diary for My Parents (Napló apámnak, anyámnak,
1990), and Unburried Man (A temetetlen halott, 2004), her
latest film dealing with the trial of Imre Nagy, which
are commented within the context of her whole biography
and entire opus.
The rest of the text reviews the other
films from the program: Time Stands Still (Megáll az idö,
1982) by the great Hungarian director Péter Gothár, and
Whooping Cough (Szamárköhögés, 1987) by Péter Gárdos, On
Death Row (A Halálraítélt, 1989) by János Zsomboly, Colossal
