An essay on micro shot — Editing in animated film and film animation
Beginning with the film A Journey to China by Gil Alkabetz, the author of the study showcases that micro editing is a constitutive part of animated film, or in other words, merging of extremely short shots, which was used by numerous authors in the era of silent (film) avant-garde. Explaining how film and animated film manipulate space and time, the author outlines the familiarity of these media, stressing that in the contemporary era of digital technology, film creators (Wachowski brothers, James Cameron) use micro editing ever more frequently, that is to say, the editing of micro shots established by the pioneers of animation (Emile Cohl, for example) which, actually, presents the core of animation film method.
