Nicole Hewitt
Nicole Hewitt is a visual artist working in 16 mm film, video and installation.
Her work is concerned with the gap/bond between fiction and documentary and the truth claims of the cinematic image. Her most recent work In Time uses the tropes of observational documentary in which the narrator is implied, although not present to build dramatic situations narrated from specific points of view. The film is based in a ballroom dancing club in Zagreb, Croatia.
Born in London in 1965. Attended primary school in Zagreb, Croatia, graduated from Brighton Polytechnic Art College, specialised in model animation at the Jiri Trnka studio of animated films in Prague. MA in Fine Art Media at the Slade School of Fine Art, 2002. Is currently a research student at the Slade attached to the Anthropology department of UCL.
Has made numerous short, animated and experimental films since 1986, screened and awarded at numerous international festivals and exhibitions. Participates in various multimedia performances and collaborative projects. She is currently the Head of Department of Animation and New Media at the Zagreb Academy of Fine Art.
